Most Doctors recommend that a person receive 2 pneumonia shots for adults over 65.  The first one PCV13 and then the second dose PPSV23 at least 1 year later.  Make sure that you have a good Medigap plan and Prescription Drug plan in case you do catch Pneumonia.

There is a vaccine for pneumonia.  The PCV13 protects against 13 strains of the pneumococcal bacteria and the PPSV23 protects against 23 strains of the bacteria.  The CDC recommends that people over 65 get the two different vaccines to help protect against pneumonia.  Medicare PART B covers two separate pneumonia vaccines.  Part B covers the first shot if you have never had the shot before and it also covers the second vaccine one year after receiving the first vaccine.
